Field Day 2015 Style

All the old favorites plus an alligator inflatable obstacle course? Needless to say, it was a great day at OMS!

So Long From Mr. Dave

Dave Melone, will be retiring at the end of this school year.  Dave has been a custodian and Facilities Operations Manager in the district for 31 years, but Olive is where he calls home. Affectionately known as Mr. Dave, he has a major presence in our school community. His cheerful disposition and genuine investment in the school combined with an unwavering dedication to the students, staff, and families at Olive make him second to none. No job or request is ever too big or too small for Mr. Dave. He is just as excited to shovel the snow, as he is to dress up as one of the Character Counts pillars for an assembly or admire a student's work.  And although he is looking forward to spending his days on the golf course perfecting his game, he shared that he will also greatly miss the fun and energy of coming to work at Olive each day.  We wish you all the best Mr. Dave!

Farewell from Mrs. Wienke

I will be retiring in June after working 18 years in District 25.  I am fortunate to have been part of the OMS school community during all of this time.  It has been a rewarding experience and I will miss caring for the children and interacting with parents and staff.  I would like to thank everyone for their support and the dedication you have demonstrated toward Olive's community and its students.

Thanks,

Mrs. Wienke

Goodbye from Mrs. Perri

I am excited to share with you that I have accepted a new position with Lincolnshire-Prairie View School District #103 as Curriculum Coordinator.  I want to thank the entire Olive community for the many wonderful experiences you have allowed me to share with you and your children over the past five years.  Not a day goes by where I do not feel privileged to work with such amazing teachers, students, and parents.  I am very proud to have been a part of the many traditions here at Olive, which celebrate our students and learning.  My mornings won’t be the same without our 5th grade newscasters encouraging me to “Make it a Great Learning Day!”  My winter break won’t be as festive without the blinking lights, popcorn, and stories shared during our “Holiday Story time with the Principals.”  My last Friday of the month won’t be as cheery without drawing the HOOT winners and hearing 600 students yell a collective “HOOT” to celebrate these worthy Owls!  Your children have energized me and made each day a new and exciting adventure!  I will greatly miss the Olive “Nest” and Olive-U!

Sincerely – Kendra Perri

Art Institute Trip

Olive's 4th grade students had their annual field trip to the Art Institute of Chicago this Thursday.  Students looked at works from Seurat, van Gogh, & Georgie O'Keeffe. They also looked at the incredible Thorne Miniature Rooms. It was a wonderful trip that helped build student appreciation for art!

Summer Reading Opportunities Through the Olive-Mary Stitt LMC

We hope that all of our students and staff will make reading for fun a top priority for the summer. Just because school is out, doesn’t mean that our kids should stop reading and learning. Let’s all keep reading for enjoyment all summer long to keep our skills strong. The OMS LMC staff encourages kids to participate in our summer reading programs: Get Caught Reading #1 and #2.  Participation forms will go home with all students currently in grades K-4 in progress report envelopes. Extra printable participation forms, program directions, and a recommended summer reading list can be found by following this link:

Get Caught Reading #1:  Find a cozy or creative place to read this summer.  Have someone take a photo of you reading a book in this spot.  Attach your photo to the participation form and fill out the information telling what and where you were reading. Turn it in to the LMC in the fall and we'll hang up your photo.

Get Caught Reading #2: If you are traveling this summer, we hope that you'll take the opportunity to enjoy a good book or two on your trip.  Have someone take a photo of you reading your book in the new state or country that you are visiting.  If possible, take your picture in front of a tourist attraction or landmark.  Attach your photo to the participation form and fill out the information telling what and where you were reading.  Turn it in to the LMC in the fall and we'l hang up your photo.

Participation in these programs is optional but encouraged.  Students may participate in one or both of the programs.

  • Reduction of the number of test units from eight or nine, depending on grade level, to six or seven.
  • Reduction of testing time for most students by 90 minutes.
