PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

We are thrilled to welcome a new PTA program to our OMS 5th graders in 2018! “World of Work” (WOW) will launch on Friday, March 2, 2018. The new program will provide 5th grade students with an opportunity to see “real world” work experience. We hope WOW will allow the students to see the value of hard work in different business settings while also giving them a window into various career options. We'll partner with local businesses and companies (examples: Berry-yo, Thrown Elements, AH library, local banks) to set up job shadowing opportunities. As always, we need a village to help this program take flight. Here are all the WOW volunteer opportunities, please consider helping us make this a reality!

SHOUT OUTS

The conference dinner was a huge success! Thank you to everyone who donated food, drinks, supplies, raffle prizes and time. The teachers were incredibly excited and appreciative of this special event. Co-Chairs Sarah Wade and Diane Burda give our teachers a special night that goes above and beyond acknowledging their hard work. From the invitations to the raffle prize presentation, not a detail is missed. The only thing that would have made it better was tropical temperatures and we wouldn't have been surprised if they made that happen!

Blue Ribbon Celebration Week

Olive-Mary Stitt families, we are ready to celebrate becoming a National Blue Ribbon School! Combining ideas from our students and staff, we are planning a week-long celebration of our schoolwide accomplishment and have an activity planned for each day. Please help us celebrate by reminding your child of each day’s activity and helping your children “dress the part” on Tuesday and Friday.

Monday, November 27th
“We all had a hand in the Blue Ribbon!”
Students & staff will contribute to a whole school craft project.

Tuesday, November 28th
“How BLUE are you?”
Dress in as much blue, in as many shades, as possible!

Wednesday, November 29th
“The writing is on the wall!”
We will create a graffiti wall in celebration of our award.

Thursday, November 30th
“Get your groove on!”
A special guest, Mr. Brian Paruch (a.k.a. Whip) will host the lunch hour with some special tunes!

Friday, December 1st
“Owl of us will gather and celebrate!”
Wear your Just Jump/Blue Ribbon shirt and get ready for an all-school assembly full of surprises to celebrate our important honor.

Want to keep the party going at home?
Here are some ideas for Blue Ribbon fun at home:
*Blue foods and snacks in lunch boxes
*Use blue chalk to decorate your driveway and sidewalk
*Every child deserves a blue ribbon- tell your child(ren) what you believe makes him/her the best!
*Draw and color pictures in many shades of blue

Nest for Celeste Author Visits OMS

After participating in the One Book One School event with The Nest For Celeste, students were excited to welcome Henry Cole as he spent the day at Olive! He wowed students with his artistic abilities and sense of humor during two large group assemblies in the Commons. He told stories about how he grew up loving to draw, and how he credits his mother and teachers for encouraging him to become an artist and author. An important idea that Henry shared with the students was to be persistent and work on a story or piece of art until it becomes the best it could be. This involves lots of revisions and edits.

Henry visited several classes for question and answer sessions. Students were entertained by his many stories and jokes. During the lunch hour, Henry joined the fourth and fifth grade Chat and Chew book group in the library with Mrs. Brown. There, he participated in a game, signed books, and took photos with the students.

If you’d like to see more photos of his visit, please follow this link to visit the LMC Author Visit page on the LMC website.  http://olivemarystittlmc.weebly.com/author-visits.htm
