If you have any interest in chairing Chess Club, Owl Way (three or four activities per year) or Scholarship/Volunteer Recognition Committee please contact olivepta@gmail.com. Poem In Your Pocket Day Blog Post

The entire OMS population celebrated Poem In Your Pocket Day sponsored by the LMC on Thursday, April 26. Every student carried several copies of a favorite poem written by either a published poet or the student himself/herself. During designated trading times during the day, announcements were made to encourage students to share their poems. Grade level classes took the opportunity to meet with other classes to exchange and share their poems with other students and teachers.

At lunch, students were entertained by Julie Jurgens, the children’s librarian at Arlington Heights Memorial Library. Ms. Jurgens recited poems and sang Down By the Bay with the accompaniment of her guitar. She invited students to come up with new words for the song that would challenge Ms. Jurgens to create rhyming verses. Some OMS student volunteers even came to the stage to read their poems to the entire lunchroom. Students saw poems all around on this special day. Several students in the CAP program helped Mrs. Brown write poems on the sidewalks and playground to entertain the student body.

    A.C.E. it 25 Bowling Night

Poem in Your Pocket Day is Coming

https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/5/53/Patch_pocket_topstitching.pngOMS students and staff will be celebrating an April poetry month tradition on Thursday, April 26. During LMC lessons, students have been choosing poems that they like and typing those. Some students decided to use poems that they had written themselves. They’ll trade and share their poems with each other in specially organized events on Poem In Your Pocket Day. Students are reminded to wear clothing with pockets on Thursday.

    Dismissal - Parking in Intersection

We need your help!  Many families are parking on Olive Street in front of the Student Drop Off sign which allows individuals to stay in their cars and wait for their children.  While we appreciate that parking is limited and traffic is often crazy, parking before the sign shown below is a hazard as the vehicle is located in the 3 way stop intersection.  Please help us to keep everyone safe by only parking past the sign below.  Thank you.

    Just Move It

The Just Move It! Challenge planning team wants to ensure that all students can participate in the 5k or 1 mile run/walk on Saturday, April 21, 2018.  If your family is experiencing financial difficulties, the race fee is waived for the student(s).  Any interested families can contact our race director at jmichallenge@gmail.com for a code to waive the fee on the registration page.  We are looking forward to seeing lots of students at this great community event!  Early registration, to guarantee receiving a t-shirt, ends on Friday, April 6, 2018.
