The Bike Rodeo consists of a short bike safety presentation from the A. H. police department followed by skill stations located in the loading zone. Participation is a requirement for all 3rd graders (and 4th and 5th graders who have not participated in the past) to be allowed to ride their bike to school without adult supervision. A Bike Rodeo permission slip and Helmet Fitting Guide can be accessed through this link. The permission slip is due by September 4 in the children's classrooms. The Ecology Club is open to OMS students in Grades 3-5 and focuses on environmental concerns, recycling and beautification of the school. We meet on the FIRST FRIDAY of every month in the LMC after school until 4:45 pm. Join a fun club with a strong purpose and help plan this year's Earth Fair in April. Questions? Are you a firefighter, police officer, EMS worker or other community first responder? If so, Character Counts would like to talk with you. In September the students are celebrating our communities first responders. We are working to assemble these parents to receive thank you cards on the morning announcements October 2 at 9am. Then consider volunteering in the Library (LMC)! There are spots open Tuesday - Friday for both our morning shifts (9:00 - 10:30 or 10:30 - 12:15). As part of our expanded pilot program, there are a few upcoming events to keep in mind. This November we will "Warm the Nest." If you have gently used winter wear will be a great service opportunity for your kids! In April we will collect gently used shoes for impoverished people throughout the world by participating in Share Your Soles. Consider holding onto shoes your kids have outgrown & be a part of this event. Details will come as the events near, but we wanted to give a heads. And please keep collecting aluminum can pop tops for our December collection benefiting Ronald McDonald House. Science Club is Back!Session 1: On Your Mark, Get Set, GO! (2nd through 5th grade) - Design, build, and race vehicles: solar powered cars, paper airplanes, film canister rockets etc.
Session 2: What Is It? (1st through 5th grade) - Use scientific techniques to identify unknown materials.
Science Club meets in the Fine Arts hallway from 3:45-4:45. Students may enroll in either or both sessions. There is no charge to participate, however, please click here for the registration form and return it to the Olive office no later than Friday, September 25. Sessions fill up quickly so don’t delay!
