Coffee & Conversation With the Principals

Mrs. FitzPatrick & Mrs. Perri will again be hosting a series of informal coffee meetings for parents, the first of which will be Friday, November 1st, at 9:30 AM. The purpose of these meetings is to give parents a chance to informally ask questions and discuss topics with Mrs. FitzPatrick & Mrs. Perri, as well as others in the school community. In addition to time with the principals, each meeting will include a presentation from someone in our community. The following is a list of the topics that will be presented this year. We developed presentations based on a parent survey that we sent out last spring, asking for topics of interest. All meetings are on Fridays, from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM. Each meeting will begin with an open Q & A period, followed by the presentation. Just prior to each coffee, we will send out an invite, asking parents to RSVP. Although you are always free to drop in, this gives us a better idea of how many people we should plan to accommodate. Come join us for a cup of coffee and some insightful discussion!

11/1/13 - What Are the Nutritional Benefits of a School Lunch? with Coletta Hines - Newell, Director of Food Services, Arlington Heights School District 25. Ever wonder why they are serving that for lunch? This presentation will explain the regulations that the school lunch program must follow and, if you pack a lunch for your child, it will help you understand what to put in the bag.

2/21/14 - Relational Aggression in Girls: Is My Daughter in Danger of Becoming a Mean Girl? with Mary Moore, OMS School Social Worker. Relational aggression in girls is a much talked about theme in the media. While many adults have heard of and learned to expect girls experiencing relational aggression during adolescence, some behaviors have become more common at the elementary level. What is "typical" behavior, and what are some of the red flags that may indicate a more serious issue?

4/11/13 - How Can I Best Help My Child When She/He Struggles in School? with Lynn Van Stee, OMS School Psychologist. A variety of research-based strategies for parents will be shared so that you can continue to partner with us in supporting your child.
