We had another fun lunch with our Hoot winners. Did you know you can get 10 students to jump rope at the same time? All it takes is some perseverance and teamwork, something these Olive Owls have! Well done!

Did you Know?
OMS students have access to all kinds of technology!
Each classroom in grades K through 5 have access to a variety of devices to use each and every day. While each classroom has different devices you might find the following in your child's classroom - iMac's, MacBook Pro's, MacBook Airs, iPad 2's, and iPad mini's!
The students in our 3rd and 4th-grade classrooms have access to 2 to 1 technology. That means that each pair of students shares 1 iPad device. Students are allowed to take these devices home based on the schedule set up by their classroom teacher.
Our Resource teachers, Literacy teacher, English Language teacher, Social Worker, and Speech and Language Pathologists all have devices in their rooms too! You can even find an extra computer or iPad in the Art and Music rooms.
Our LMC computer lab was recently updated and each station has a brand new MacBook Air. We also have 4 mobile storage carts that have an entire class set of laptops that can be used for whole group instruction.
All in all, we have a total of 439 computers and 288 iPads!
In conjunction with Tech25, we are continually updating our technology equipment to meet the instructional needs of our students.

Service Learning Club Fundraiser
The OMS Service Learning Club is planning their annual fundraiser for The Buddy Foundation! The Buddy Foundation is a not-for-profit no-kill shelter that services homeless dogs and cats in the Arlington Heights area. A loving home, food, shelter and walks are provided to all animals in need as adoption with a "just right" family is pursued.
The Service Learning Club will be creating crafts of their own making during the month of November to sell to students and teachers during the entire lunch hour on Thursday, December 8th. All crafts will be $1.00 each and 100% of all profits will go to The Buddy Foundation to assist with the purchase of vet bills, food and other animal needs.
We thank you in advance for your support!
School Improvement Goals 16-17
Every year, schools develop goals that will guide their work for the year. These goals typically relate to the overarching goals of the district but are specific to our school and our students. We believe it is important to share these goals with you as we work collaboratively to help all of our students learn and grow.
This year, OMS staff developed the following two goals. The second goal focuses on the implementation of our new reading curriculum, Schoolwide:
The second goal focuses on our collaborative work together as grade level teams in an effort to provide responsive instruction to all of our students.
This year, OMS staff developed the following two goals. The second goal focuses on the implementation of our new reading curriculum, Schoolwide:
- By spring 2017, maintain at least 90% of students in grades K-4 achieving grade level benchmark as evidenced by performance on the Fountas and Pinnell Benchmark Assessment System. The Benchmark assessment system is used to determine a student's independent and instructional reading levels and help teachers differentiate their instruction.
The second goal focuses on our collaborative work together as grade level teams in an effort to provide responsive instruction to all of our students.
- By Spring 2017, 80% of students in grades K-5 will score proficient on a common grade level assessment in a core academic area. Common grade level assessments are regular classroom tests that provide teachers with timely feedback regarding their students' progress, foster consistent expectations across grade levels, and enables educators to differentiate their instruction to best meet the needs of all of our students.
