Twig is Green

The Twig has gone GREEN!!!

Welcome to our Blog and your connection to the environmentally friendly Twig!  As you may have noticed, with the new online registration system we have been able to access your preferred email for school notices and communication.
-->  The Twig will now be available through this new Olive-Mary Stitt Blog.  Our hope is to blog when information is timely and include photos which will help us celebrate our school and our students!  We hope that our parent community will find this level of communication useful and even more engaging!  Each Friday you will be sent an email with a link to our school blog.  For this reason, it is most important that you keep your email current and notify the OMS main office if any changes should occur to your preferred email. We look forward to using this 21st century tool to further strengthen our home/school communication!

Welcome Back

We are excited to welcome back all of our returning owls to the nest in addition to 58 new little owls joining our wonderful school community.  We kicked off the school year with a very successful meet and greet, which included time for the students to see their new classrooms and say hello to their new teachers. Neighbors and friends were able to reconnect and share fun summer stories while enjoying a hotdog or ice-cream treat!  We cannot thank our wonderful PTA enough for their support in making this event such a great success!

We were also honored to unveil our new entryway mural in memory of a former Olive teacher for 31 years, Mrs. Kathy Wessels.  Mrs. Wessels' husband, Dean Wessels, her former colleagues, and former Principal, Mary Stitt joined us for this unveiling ceremony. The new mural, painted by local artist Debbie DeFelippo, celebrates our Owls of Good Character, created by our very own parent, Wendi Jandt.  We hope that Mrs. Wessels' love of learning and this new work of art will forever welcome the students to Olive-Mary Stitt.

Students and teachers alike shared their enthusiasm for the new school year at our opening day spirit assembly.  During this time we were able to introduce the 2012-13 teacher line-up in a way that rivaled any Chicago Bulls pre-game ceremony.  Our teachers also created a very clever video presentation modeling the Do’s and Don’ts on the playground.  We ended our assembly with some guest appearances by the Six Pillars of Good Character.  Our Olive students will be studying and exemplifying these attributes throughout the school year.  As is tradition here at Olive-Mary Stitt, we closed out our assembly with an all school sing of the school song!

Curriculum night was yet another event which helped us kick-off the school year.  During this time, teachers were able to share a little bit about themselves and the wonderful curriculum that will guide your child’s learning this year.  We hope you were impressed with our musical talents as we introduced ourselves with our very own Olive lip dub!  We had so much fun preparing this welcome video for all of our parents!

Most importantly, we cannot thank you enough for sharing your children with us, and we look forward to a year where “Olive-Us Own the Learning!”
