Our One Word!
Over the last couple of months, Dr. Bein has joined Mrs. Yarbrough's 3rd-grade class for a series of lessons and discussions. Students were asked to find their "one word" and talk about it with their classmates. The following video gives you a little peek into what they discovered.

Last Day of School Important Information
We have lots of fun things planned for the last day of school (Tuesday, June 7th) including our 5th grade breakfast, all school bingo, and yearbook signing. The last day will be a full day of school. A couple of years ago, we started a new last day of school tradition at OMS, our all school send off for 5th grade students. At the conclusion of the last day, students in grades K-4 create a human tunnel for our 5th grade students pass through on their final walk out of the building. We invite the entire OMS community to join us at the end of the tunnel to wish the 5th grade students well as they head off to middle school. As with many other events, we have worked hard to create plans that prevent construction from getting in the way of our day-to-day functioning. We are excited to announce that we have a plan for this year's tunnel, but it will require your help.
We are going to close our parking lot for pick up on the last day of school to allow the human tunnel to be formed in this area. No cars will be allowed in the OMS lot at the end of the last day of school. Parents wanting to pick up their child(ren) on this day will need to park in the church parking lot, walk to the OMS parking lot, and pick up their child after the 5th grade send-off.
Thank you for your help in making this a great last day for our 5th grade students!

5th Grade Send-off
At the end of our last day of school, we will send off our 5th grade students in style with a human tunnel. This has become a tradition at OMS, and we're hoping parents can join us! At approximately 3:35 pm we will dismiss our 5th grade students through a human tunnel of kindergarten through 4th-grade students. The tunnel will be set up in our parking/play lot so please be advised that there will be no pickup line on the last day of school. All parents will need to park in the church parking lot and walk over to OMS to meet up with their child(ren).
In the map below, you will see the route of the tunnel, along with an area for parents to watch, and grade level reunification areas. If you would like to watch the tunnel, please gather in the northwest corner of the lot. Once the 5th grade students have exited the tunnel, we will dismiss all other students to their reunification areas where you may meet your child. Please join us to wish our 5th-grade students well as they head off to South and Thomas!

Picking up students at Our Saviour Lutheran Church
We received an email from Our Saviour's Lutheran Church asking us to remind parents that they have a specific traffic pattern that needs to be followed in their parking lot. They are more than happy to have parents parking in their lot to pick up students knowing that our drop off and pick up is more congested this year; however, they ask that we follow the posted signs on their property.
The driveway located on Olive Street is an entrance only. Parents have been using this as an exit which is causing concern as students are often walking across the driveway. The high volume of traffic turning onto Olive Street from Arlington Heights Road in addition to parents trying to exit from that driveway is a safety hazard.
We ask that if you do use their space to pick up your child, please follow the posted traffic signs.
Thank you for continuing to help us keep the safety of our students as a top priority.
2 Weeks Ahead of Schedule & Still Going Strong! - Construction Update 5.13.16
Our project has actually moved ahead of schedule. As you can see from the pictures below, carpeting and basketball hoops are already installed. We have had a chance to take a few teachers out onto the site. We are excited to announce that our 4th grade classes will occupy the new classrooms next year while every grade level will get to enjoy the new gym and enlarged commons. Exciting times at OMS!

Talking About Failure
The following is a great article about a study done by Stanford professor, Kyla Haimovitz, and Carol Dweck, author of Mindset: The New Psychology of Sucess. We read Mindset as a staff a couple of years ago. It's a great read for parenting!
