We had a wonderful turnout for our Earth Day / Book Fair on Wednesday night. Some of the many exciting events included face painting, trash to treasure creations, recycled games, and recycled experiments. It was great seeing so many families enjoying this PTA sponsored event! Thank you so much to the many parent and teacher volunteers who made this event a success.
We had a wonderful end to the week with the OMS 50th Birthday Assembly and Open House. During the all school assembly, the students were able to meet the past four principals of Olive, and hear about their favorite memories of being a principal in this wonderful community.
Linda Burkhard, Rebecca FitzPatrick, Marybeth Anderson, and Mary Stitt,
In addition, we revealed the name of our new mascot, as voted on by the students, with 51% choosing the winning name - "Oliver!"
We also shared an OMS Tour video created by some of our fourth grade students. Check out the link to this video, now located on the Olive website!
In addition, we shared the all school photo taken during our rainbow spirit day by one of our wonderful PTA parents, Mrs. Michelle Strahan Quafisheh. This picture turned out great, and we are excited to be selling copies in this week's Twig!
The day concluded with an all community open house. The Olive staff had a great time visiting with past students and families. In addition, many past staff members stopped by to check out the wonderful ways Olive has changed or stayed the same! We cannot thank all of you enough, especially our PTA, for your support during this week of festivities!
Thank you so much to our wonderful PTA for helping us celebrate Olive's 50th Birthday with an ice cream treat on Thursday. Our students were so appreciative of this special treat and said it was the best ice cream they ever had!
Insanity has struck and we know one thing for sure....our students and staff are crazy about OMS! Check out these crazy hairdo's, socks, and owl wear!!!!!
Congratulations
to the Olive Community for an awesome showing at the Just Move It!
Challenge this past Saturday! Those snowflakes were no match for the Owls!
The following information was shared with our Superintendent:
Dr. Jerome,
On
behalf of PTA Council and ABC/25 Foundation I want to sincerely thank
you and all District 25 staff on their support of the Just Move it!
Challenge. Despite the snow, the wind, and the cold, student and staff
participation levels were great!
I
am excited and proud to report that 1020 people registered for the
event, of which 500 were students and 107 were teachers and staff. We
had an additional 25 staff members volunteer during the event.
Our
student participation awards go to Olive and South where student
participation was 23.3% and 3.5% respectively. Our teacher participation
award will go to Olive with 51% of staff either participating or
volunteering at the event. Teacher participation was a close race as
Dryden had 44%, and Ivy Hill had 37% participation.
On
behalf of the JMI team, I want to extend our gratitude for everyone’s
dedication and service during the Just Move it! Challenge. Please
forward this note to your staff.
